How long is a surf lesson?Individual Lessons: The timing for an individual's surf lesson varies depending on their skill level and whether they are apart of a group lesson. It's recommended for beginner students (in their first ten lessons or less) to choose either a 1.5 Hour Individual Lesson, or 2 Hour Individual Lesson. The reason for this being so they can become properly acquainted with the ocean, have an ample amount of time to gear up and put their wetsuit on, as well as receive coaching advice for the next lesson. This way the student has atleast 1 to 1.5 hours of quality time in the water. This all depends based on student preferences. Recurring beginner students (typically after the ten lesson range), and intermediate to advanced level students who are well acquainted with the ocean and their technique may decide that they want to jump straight into the water with their wetsuit already on and board-ready. Group Lessons: Group Lessons last 2 hours on average. The reason being is that there are typically 4 to 8 students with a 1:4 instructor to student ratio. The first fifteen minutes are spent going over ocean safety and warming up for the session. After which the students spend roughly an hour and a half in the water before cooling down from the session, receiving any additional advice, and having time to take their wetsuits off. Group lessons are recommended for those who want to take lessons with a friend, or for travelers who are looking to get a taste of what surfing is all about.
